Simple dodgeball rules
First, divide into two teams of 6 players.
Agree on and mark out the edges of the area in which you are going to play and mark a line down the middle. One team stands on one side of the line, the other team on the other side.
There are 6 dodgeballs and the game starts with all players behind their end line. Once the whistle has sounded they may only retrieve the 3 balls on the centre line to their right hand side. They must retreat behind the attack line before the ball can be legally thrown. Players must try and throw the ball to hit a player in the other team below the hip. If they hit the player is out if it is caught the player who threw the ball is out.
After the ball is thrown, the person who gets it carries on the game by throwing and trying to hit another player.
- If a player is hit by a live ball below the hip they are out (a ball that hasn't bounced or touched the ground).
- If a player catches the ball the thrower is out.
- If a player steps over the middle line into the other teams half or over the boundaries they are out.
- If the ball bounces before hitting someone or being caught no one is out.
- You mustn’t throw the ball at a player’s head or throw it too hard.
- A penalty will be given for teams holding all 6 dodgeballs for over 5 seconds (point deduction). All dodgeballs will then be returned for another rush.
- You win if the other team loses all it's players or you have more players at the end of 5 minutes.
- The referee's decision is final
